Let's meet our hero!
Before we start learning different aspects of coding, we need to do something special. If we try to imagine that our journey is a kind of movie, then we must have an actor who will play the main role in our performance.
We'll start by creating our character in Scratch. Our final result will be the sum of the different geometric shapes that together will make up our actor. It's like putting on clothes before leaving the house.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to… Franky the mouse.
If you like it, we will go step by step to explain how to do it. Ready?Let's create a new project and go to the Costumes section. We need to enter the name of our new hero franky-mouse.
Now the fun part begins. As we mentioned at the beginning, the magic lies in the use of various geometric shapes. Let's take a circle and resize it to get something similar to an egg. The next step will be to use the Reshape tool and change the bottom part of our buddy to a less rounded one. Don't forget about the colors!
The process of creating the eyes is similar to what we did with the body. The only difference is that here we don't need any outline.
Now we have to be a little patient. Our nose has a normal circle shape, but we have to use our artistic skills to change it, just like in the picture. P.S. If we want to have a really nice nose, we have to make it orange!
I have to be honest with you. The mouth is the most complicated and time-consuming part. We could try to form it from a line, but it is also possible to form it from a circle. Of course, we also need to use our favorite reshaping tool to shape it.
The legs consist of two circles. Since we've come this far, drawing them shouldn't be a big deal. The new thing we need to learn is that we can select multiple shapes if we hold down the SHIFT key and select them with the left mouse button. It's easy, right?
So far we've learned the trick of selecting multiple shapes. What if we go a step further and clone them? Our friend's ears are also made of circles. If we select them and use the Copy/Paste buttons, we won't have to repeat our work again! Clicking Flip Horizontally will create a mirror of our shape so we can place it on the other side.
